Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce believes FOX Sports mishandled fellow former All-Pro tight end turned NFL analyst Greg Olsen amid the hiring of seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.
Olsen spent several years as FOX Sports' lead NFL analyst prior to the network's hiring of Brady for the same role before the conclusion of his NFL career. The former All-Pro tight end continued working alongside lead play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt during Brady's final NFL season in 2022 and gap period in 2023, but will transition to the network's No. 2 color commentator role working alongside new play-by-play partner Joe Davis in 2024.
Kelce addressed the announcement of Brady's first matchup as FOX Sports' lead NFL analyst during his 'New Heights' podcast with his brother, recently retired former Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro center turned 'Monday Night Football' analyst Jason Kelce, released on Wednesday (May 15).
“I love my guy Greg Olsen. They kinda did him dirty over there at Fox,” Travis said. “But I mean, it’s Tom Brady, what can you do? Sometimes you just gotta do your thing. And Greg does a f**king tremendous job.”
“I try not to be biased against the commentators and the color guys, but I think Greg is phenomenal at it,” Jason added. “You can tell he makes it a point to know what he is really talking about. … I think he’s got a beautiful blend of knowledge and experience to unleash when he calls games. It’s a joy to watch Greg call games or listen to it.”
Travis' relationship with Olsen spans several years with the two not only playing the same position but also founding Tight End University, along with San Francisco 49ers All-Pro George Kittle, an event focused on the NFL's tight end community bonding together ahead of the season.
“That’s my mother f**king dog,” Kelce said, referring to Olsen, before adding that FOX "got two great ones" in both Olsen and Brady, adding that he thought the seven-time Super Bowl champion would be, “fantastic, because he’s f**king Tom Brady."
Brady will make his FOX Sports broadcasting debut during the Week 1 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns, the network announced during its Upfronts in New York event on Monday (May 13).
