Coach Tom Newell Organizes Symposium to be held at UW on Saturday, Broadcast live on the Internet

FamilySportsLifeToday.com and Coaches Who Care, Intl. will host the 3rd Annual Parent Symposium “Expectations and Revelations: an Insight to the Process of Intercollegiate Recruiting”. Coach Tom Newell will moderate the discussion.
“I attended the symposium previously and had a lot of questions on how the college application process fit with the athletic recruiting for my son. Tom and his panel of speakers did a great job of outlining the parent’s role in their child’s athletic future, what the student should realistically expect beyond high school, and how colleges approach scouting, recruiting, and scholarships,” said Pat Ulhman, whose son Ryan Roarke is a Cornell University graduate.
The symposium will be held Saturday May 31, 2008, in the Assembly Room of Hec Ed Pavilion at the University of Washington. Registration begins at 12 noon and the program runs from 12:30 to 3:30 PM. Details are available at

This program is for parents and kids at the Middle School and High School levels of interscholastic sports. The symposium is FREE and refreshments will be provided.

Questions will be presented to the coaches as well as parents learning about the various rules and regulations related to their children becoming NCAA Eligible for recruitment. Materials will be passed out to each family in attendance.

3A Quarterfinals: Lakes vs. Columbia River
Final: Lakes advances to the semifinals where they will meet Seattle Prep with a 55-44 win over Columbia River.
End of the 3rd: Lakes leads Columbia River, 40-38.
3A Quarterfinals: Seattle Prep vs. Mount Rainier
Final: Mount Rainier blew a 15-point halftime lead against Seattle Prep and los their quarterfinal match-up, 64-58 in overtime.
Mount Rainier led 46-43 with :35 to play after free throws by Josh Armstrong. Seattle Prep quickly came down and Jon Humphrie hit a straight away three with :20 remaining
Jon Morine answered right back to put Mount Rainier up by two (48-46) with :15 remaining. But Jordan Hamilton of Seattle Prep tied the game with :04 left to send the game in overtime.
In overtime the game was dominated by Seattle Prep as they outscored Mount Rainier 16-10.
Seattle Prep was led by the 26 from Jack Hanley on 9 of 17 shooting. Hamilton finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Humphrie was stellar down the stretch hitting 4 of 13 shots and finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Seattle Prep shot 23.8% in the first half, but rebounded by shooting 50% in the second half.
Mount Rainier was led by the 14 from Alfie Mille, but he hit just 3 of 14 from the floor.
Mount Rainier hustled into front court and Jon Morine put his shot off glass with :15 left. But the see-saw game continued as Jordan Hamilton hit a lay-in with :04 left. Mount Rainier point guard Vonchae Richardson let it fly from half-court at the buzzer and the shot for a second looked like it was right on path but it just sailed left to send the game into overtime.
OT: Mount Rainier led by three with :20 to play and then Jon Humphrie for Seattle Prep hit a three with to tie it. Mount Rainier answered with a bucket to go back up with :15 to play but Jordan Hamilton of Seattle Prep tied it up with :04 remaining and then Mount Rainier got off a shot from halfcourt that looked good at the buzzer but just sailed left of the rim.
4th quarter: :32 remains and Josh Armstrong just hit two big FT's for Mount Rainier and they lead 46-43.
4th quarter: :44 remain and Mount Rainier leads 44-43.
2nd quarter: 1:29 left in the second quarter and Mount Rainier continues to beat Seattle Prep up and down the court. The Rams lead 28-14. Seattle Prep is having a tough time of dealing with the passing of Mount Rainier, especially when the ball goes into the post the Rams are sending cutters and the post players for the Rams are constantly finding them open.
End of 1st quarter: Well played first quarter between the Mount Rainier Rams and the Seattle Prep Panthers. Mount Rainier leads 13-9.
